Principal - Lindy Bryant: Padstow Heights Public School

'Thank you Veronica for your work with all the students, Kindergarten to Year 6! The students love going to the drama lessons. They report that the activities are lots of fun. Staff report that the children are completely engaged and that you have excellent control of the sessions. You provide explicit feedback to the students so that they know how to improve.

Principal - Julie King: St Christopher’s Primary, Panania

'After hearing fantastic feedback from the teachers and students about how effective the Let it Shine Drama program was at St Brendan’s Primary Bankstown, I was encouraged to book in the program at St Christopher’s. We have run weekly lessons as part of our school’s RFF program for the past 5 years. Our students have become more confident in expressing their thoughts and ideas when communicating with others; this is due to having such an experienced and qualified Primary Drama teacher to organise and teach our whole school Drama program. Veronica has engaged very well with our students and has encouraged them to build upon their strengths. Their self-esteem and self-worth have improved and they are more willing to take risks and to perform in front of an audience. The program promotes the importance of Drama as an educating tool rather than just a series of rehearsals.

Cathy Curran:

Sacred Heart Primary, Mosman

'It is noticeable that the students have become confident in expressing their ideas in front of their peers. Many students don’t excel in academic subjects but ‘Let it Shine Education’ allowed those children to explore creativity and use their imagination. The teachers were well-prepared. As I have a few students with behavioural issues and emotional needs, both teachers were very patient and understanding. They brought out the best in them. My Year 3’s have loved it!

A. Principal - Errol Armstrong: Padstow Heights Public School

'I found it most beneficial that the students could use their imagination and were able to 'put on a mask' when thinking of scenarios and thinking 'beyond the square'. The students interacted with others outside of their friendship groups and learnt to take turns and listen as an act of courtesy. The positive feedback that was given to the students was great! I liked the way that the students were interacting without technology. The kids are given the opportunity to express their opinions in a warm, non-threatening, secure environment.

Veronica is a most capable, committed and enthusiastic Drama teacher. She has an excellent rapport with the students and gives effective and relevant feedback to the staff. She clearly enjoys her role and this resonates with the kids in her care. She is very friendly and personable.

Year 6 Teacher:

Greenacre Public School

'The Let it Shine Drama Program was a great success at our school! Throughout the two terms, our students were highly engaged in all of the lessons. I could see the students connecting what they had learnt during drama lessons about character roles and audience perspectives to their Literacy lessons in class. Veronica was very enthusiastic with the students and this encouraged them to try their best and to have fun while learning!

Patricia McLaren: St Christopher’s Primary, Panania

'The feedback that the teacher gave to all of the students was great. She gave positive feedback while re-explaining the concepts and skills that the task was focusing on.

Year 2 Teacher: Eastwood Public School

'During this Program, the children became more confident in performing in front of the class and they worked collaboratively with peers. The Teacher was always positive and provided the students with positive feedback. The teacher gave instructions clearly and had good class control. The students became aware of using the correct staging language (centre stage, stage left, stage right).

“The program offered  opportunities for students to develop their creativity and confidence in a safe and encouraging environment.

Jane Taylor: Assistant Principal- St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary School, Dulwich Hill

“The Drama Program is beneficial because the students are able to learn the skills of Drama. It gives them opportunities to perform in front of their class. During the lessons the students imagine, create and explore drama activities. I love that Let it Shine Drama offers Extension drama classes.

The parents have responded very positively to the students having these drama lessons. Elizabeth is an amazing teacher and we would love to have her again next year!

Emily Pleskun: Year 2 Teacher- Padstow Heights Public School

“The Program offers a specialised Teacher with excellent knowledge and experience. It gives students the opportunity to work in an environment outside of the classroom and to work collaboratively in groups by sharing ideas and expressing themselves. The Drama Teacher is flexible and friendly and the students always look forward to Drama!

Christine Brais: Year 3/4 Teacher- St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary School, Dulwich Hill

“The students were excited to attend each Drama lesson with Miss Row. They would come back discussing all they did with enthusiasm. It was nice to see some students who don’t necessarily excel in academic subjects, shine in Drama!

Monika Frolich: Year 5 Teacher- St Mary and St Mina’s Coptic Orthodox College, Bexley

“The program encourages the students to work with different children each week. They practise using expression and body language to convey meaning (not only using their voice, which is what they are most used to). The drama program gives the students an outlet for imaginative ideas and expression, in a non-handwritten form.
I love how engaged and enthusiastic the class are towards their drama lessons. Their personalities are really able to shine through, as well as their natural ability to entertain others in a way that seems to come so easily to them. My class is full of personality and I really enjoyed seeing my students come to life on stage!

Teachers

Margaret Dyer:

Epping Heights Public School

'Every child has a chance to develop their drama skills and to perform for an audience. The program is great for building confidence in students who normally step back. It also encourages the use of imagination. Stepping into a role frees up some children and helps to dispel their inhibitions.

Our Drama Teacher has been wonderful; patient, positive and very clear with instructions, valuing each child's contribution. My class has loved this program.

Larissa Goble: St Columba's Primary, Leichhardt

'Having a qualified teacher is very beneficial. The way that she speaks to the students and handles behaviour management is fabulous. The Children are gaining confidence in themselves to get up in front of a group. Every lesson is well organised. The children seem transfixed on what will happen next in the lesson and are constantly engaged.
